Considering I used to blog for a living, I was pretty shocked when I realised I hadn’t updated this blog since late January 2024. Of course, I’ve been publishing in my newsletter 10 times a month, including a regular behind the scenes update. I’m going to pull a few snippets from a couple of those editions for this update.
New Quarter, Big Changes
As you’ve probably heard elsewhere, I decided to step away from Mission Equality as the company pivoted into a new phase. It was a great experience and I wish the team all the best as they continue this important work.
So now I’m giving my full attention to this newsletter and my books, and to products and services related to anti-racism, equality and self-publishing. Yes, I know that’s a mixed bag, but I’ve always had various interests and it’s no different now.
Launch & Profit Newsletter Launchpad
One of the first things I launched was a course to help people get started with their own newsletters. You can see details here: Launch and Profit Newsletter Launchpad. It was a joyful experience. I love seeing people feel empowered to share their voice and actually roll up their sleeves and get started. One of the course participants is starting TWO newsletters. The next iteration is coming up soon.
In addition to the main course, I also ran a taster session, to introduce people to the Launchpad and to me as an educator. That went fabulously, and the replay is now available for purchase on Gumroad.
SHHARE Community
After hemming and hawing about creating an anti-racism course, I consulted with some trusted peers and made a pivot. I’m now launching an anti-racism community, and the course will be part of the live learning offering for community members. I’m pretty excited about it, and the first few potential members have already sent in their applications.
Newsletter Mega Supporter Plan
One of my mentors encouraged me to introduce a mega supporter plan, for corporates and those with few financial restrictions. This is a great plan for those who want to use my newsletter as a resource within a larger company setting, or even share it with their clients. I’m looking for 10-15 supporters at that level, which will put the newsletter on a firm footing and let me pay it forward by supporting others. In particular, I’d love to be in a position to pay the occasional guest writers who grace us with their perspectives. Check out the upgrade page for some of the other benefits.
Book Updates
I’m Tired of Racism, is continuing to sell, and I got my first audiobook royalty at the start of the July. That was a lovely moment. I’ve prepared a proposal for the follow up book, so it’s time for me to look around for agents and or publishers. Feel free to make introductions. While I’d like to try a different approach just for my own knowledge, I’m still more than comfortable self-publishing, so I’m keeping that option in my back pocket
Guest Article
While I’m no longer an active freelance writer, it felt good to flex my writing muscles for an article for the elletwo blog, titled Improving Workplaces for People with Intersectional Identities. This article was a long time in the making, coming out of a podcast appearance with Lauren Howard last year. It took a while to settle on a topic and to actually write the article with everything else that’s been happening, but I was happy with the end result.
Other Offerings
In addition to all I’ve mentioned here, I also relaunched my thought partnership service, now called Borrow Sharon’s Brain, and added a newsletter merch store.
As you can see, I’ve been pretty busy. Please check everything out – I’d love to hear what you think.
